Between 1450-1750, one of the greatest "gendercide" took place throughout Europe. An estimated number of 60,000 witches died during this period, Germany being one of the centres for this persecution, killing more than 48% of its witches. Malleus maleficarum (The Hammer of Witches, 1485-86) was the greater impulse for this hunting.
Sentences like "All wickedness is but little compared to the wickedness of a woman." reveal the misogynistic ideals in this Latin written text, which based its ideas on the "evil nature" of women, "a natural temptation" as a structural defect rooted in the original creation (Katz).
This "malicious power" was tested using elements of torture until inquisitors heard the requested confession. Tools like breast ripper, saw torture, Judas cradle, rack, pear of anguish, knee splitter, iron chair, among many others, can give us an idea of how barbaric torture was, leaving only one possible destiny for these women: trauma until death.
This performance project is based on this witch-hunting background, reflecting upon violence against women, the demonization of the body and the symbolism of the fire: no option for resurrection.
