With a long repertoire of facade interventions, KLUB7 want to reserve space to spontaneity while attributing great importance to the process and decision made in loco, in communion with the same walls which ask for a temporary Landmark.

Artists Motivation

Lucas Cranach the Elder was one of the most important German painters and graphic artists of the Renaissance. That gives us enough reason to accept the “Beyond Retina” project in Wittenberg and address the cult around Cranach the person and the centre of his life in the town.

Cranach was probably the artist or maybe also the designer who gave Reformation an appearance, a so-called corporate identity. He translated the propositions, Luther’s writings into images.

Naturally, this is an inspiration to us artists. Through our installation on the house we want to stress the unfathomably abandoned property, create a story arc remembering the importance of the former department store in GDR. We want to be spontaneous while working; we want to be inspired on the spot. Pop elements shall be mixing with protestant symbols, construction site ambiance, irony, comic, abstract, decorative and surreal elements. We want our ideas to blend and use the façade as a canvas. We want to create a sensation, be colorful and bring color to Wittenberg’s marketplace. We want to create a compilation of forms – a formation altar on the Sellfish building (Markt3).
